Lukas Werner
Immersive Technology Student & XR Developer
Zurich, Switzerland
Download CVI'm Lukas Werner — an Immersive Technology student at HSLU in Switzerland, building experiences that live between the physical and the digital. My route here wasn't straight: business school, the Swiss Air Force, and a job in quality management all came first. Each step shaped how I think about systems, precision, and human experience.
I work across Unreal Engine, Unity, and Blender — from VR combat games and physics-based gondola simulations to AR world-builders and generative graphics. What drives me is that moment when a virtual space stops feeling like a screen and starts feeling real.
Outside of the screen, I spend my time on the mountain snowboarding, keeping sharp through combat sports — boxing and jiu-jitsu — and unwinding with music. The guitar has been a constant for years.
Journey
Portfolio, AR Builder & What Comes Next
Building this portfolio to document the full journey. Working on the AR Minecraft Builder and pushing into larger, more ambitious projects — applying everything built up across the past semesters.
Mage Arena VR · Neural Collapse · Diesel Punk · Star Wars Museum · CityX
The busiest and most productive semester yet. Shipped five distinct projects across four disciplines: Mage Arena VR — a 10-minute group VR experience in Unreal Engine 5 where you defend a village as an apprentice wizard. Neural Collapse — a level and world design project set inside an AI that converted humanity through religion. Diesel Punk — a UE5 environment where you reconnect a city's broken power grid. The Star Wars Museum — a 40+ hour Blender environment housing all my hand-modelled assets (Chandelier, Mana Potion, Rocketship, Settlers of Catan diorama). And CityX — a full UI/UX prototype in Figma for a gamified city explorer with AR building scanning and a leaderboard.
Tower Defence · Dream World Simulator · Generative Graphics · Pumpkin Farmer
A semester deep in algorithms, storytelling, and creative coding. Built a Tower Defence game in Unity to visualise and compare pathfinding algorithms (A*, Dijkstra, BFS) in real time. Created Dream World Simulator — a narrative Unity prototype built around a recurring dream of mine. Explored generative computer graphics and shader-driven drawing tools. Also shipped Pumpkin Farmer, a serious game designed to teach children about growing food.
Cable Car Simulator VR — First Unity & VR Project
Built the Cable Car Simulator VR — a gondola ride up a mountain in Unity with poke-based interaction using the Oculus SDK. My very first experience with both Unity and VR development. The project introduced me to OOP design patterns, C# scripting, and the fundamentals of building for a headset. A steep learning curve, but the moment the gondola moved for the first time made it all worth it.
BSc Immersive Technologies — HSLU Rotkreuz
Started the BSc programme at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. After years of searching for the right path, this was the one that genuinely excited me from day one. Expected graduation: Summer 2027.
UniMe — First Figma & UI/UX Project
Designed UniMe — an app concept for discovering and rating universities — as a self-directed exploration of UI/UX design and Figma. Built user flows, wireframes, and a complete high-fidelity prototype. A first step into the design side of product thinking.
Swiss Armed Forces — Air Force
Completed recruit school in Payerne with the Swiss Air Force. Months of structure, discipline, and performing under pressure. A completely different kind of challenge that sharpened how I approach problems and work within a team.
University of Zurich — Business Administration
Two semesters studying Business Administration before realising it was not the right fit. I could learn the material, but none of it made me want to keep going. Leaving was one of the harder decisions — and one of the best.
Hempel Special Metals AG — Quality Management
Working part-time in Quality Management and Accounting alongside my studies. ISO standards, QMS documentation, process audits, and finance work. Running in parallel with everything else — and teaching me how professional organisations actually function from the inside.
Kantonsschule Hottingen, Zurich — Matura
Upper secondary school in Zurich with a focus in Economics. Graduated with the Swiss Matura — the formal qualification that opened the door to university study. Developed analytical thinking and a growing curiosity for how systems, digital and otherwise, work.
